Magnetic Resonance Imaging Guide

Rapid advances in digital technologies and the increasing emphasis on patient safety are leading us to safer, more detailed and radiation-free imaging modalities in dentistry. In this context, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers remarkable potential in dentistry due to its high soft tissue resolution, absence of ionizing radiation and its ability to reflect anatomical details in a superior way.

This guideline has been prepared to present the scientific basis for the use of MRI in dentistry, current technological developments and clinical applications from a holistic perspective. The development of MRI systems specific to the dentomaxillofacial region heralds a new era in this field. In particular, the emergence of Dental Dedicated MRI (ddMRI) systems is a major step in the expansion of radiation-free diagnostic options.

As the Society of Oral Diagnosis and Maxillofacial Radiology, it is one of our most important responsibilities to support our colleagues' access to safe and effective imaging applications based on scientific knowledge. This guide will not only guide academicians, specialists and students, but also inspire future innovations.
